June 21, 2018
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (June 20, 2018) – The Women’s Tennis Coaching Association is proud to announce that the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has signed on as a supporting partner of the second annual WTCA Conference NYC, which will be held on August 30-31 at the East Side Marriott hotel.
The ITA serves as the governing body of college tennis, overseeing men’s and women’s varsity tennis at the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA levels. The purpose of the organization is to develop a deeper sense of responsibility in teaching, promoting, maintaining, and conducting the game of tennis among intercollegiate coaches.
“We are honored to have the ITA as a supporting partner of the WTCA Conference NYC,” said WTCA CEO Sarah Stone. “This a fantastic opportunity for women’s tennis at the collegiate level. With this partnership, college coaches will be able to gain the necessary tools for creating a positive environment for their female athletes.”
Last year’s inaugural WTCA Conference NYC hosted over 250 coaches, 40 percent of which coached at the collegiate level, making the partnership between the WTCA and the ITA at this year’s event all the more valuable.
“The ITA is thrilled to join the WTCA at their important NYC conference,” said ITA CEO Timothy Russell. “More than half of our coaches coach women’s teams. Being able to collaborate with the WTCA provides great value to a large and important sector of our coaching membership and is an exciting endeavor for our Association. We fully endorse the WTCA’s mission to lead positive change in women’s tennis by providing coaches with the education and training to help their female athletes achieve success on and off the court. Through this partnership, our hope is to provide our collegiate coaches with the tools to create a positive impact on women’s tennis.”
ITA COO Erica Perkins Jasper added: “I am a firm believer that our ITA coaches are some of the most important influences in our player’s lives. If we can continue to educate and empower our women’s tennis coaches we are not only improving the quality of coaching that our female athletes are receiving, we are also growing the future pool of female coaches as I know my positive college tennis experience led me to choose college tennis as a career path.”
The WTCA Conference NYC will feature cutting-edge education for the coaches of female tennis players, including keynote speakers such as Gigi Fernandez, Dr. Mark Kovacs, Melanie Oudin, and Johan Kriek as well as an interactive panel discussion with top collegiate coaches and ITA leadership. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in group discussions and network with other like-minded coaches to create a positive change within the sport.
Coaches will have the opportunity to receive education from world-class coaches and athletes to foster a secure, positive, and transparent environment for their players. With this partnership between the ITA and the WTCA, women’s tennis at the collegiate level is certainly taking a giant leap forward.
