Dunlop Signs Chilean Coach Nicolas Massu
December 29, 2019
December 19, 2019 – (Greenville, SC) Dunlop announced the signing of Nicolás Massú, a former Top 10 player on the ATP Tour and current coach to Dominic Thiem. He joins Patrick Mouratoglou and Brad Stine as highly visible Tour level coaches representing Team Dunlop.
“I am very happy to join the Dunlop family and to help with their mission of growing the game across the world,” said Massú. “We all know Dunlop as an incredible brand with a long tradition, but the investment they have made in tennis over the past three years has been extraordinary. As a coach and ambassador I hope to continue their growth.”
“With his previous Olympic glory and current coaching status, Nicolás remains extremely popular, especially in South America,” said Kimberly Pettit, Marketing Manager for Dunlop. “We find former players and coaches of his level to be great representatives for the brand. They have the experience, knowledge, time and influence to effectively communicate our core values. Plus Nicolás is very equipment focused, so he brings a great deal of knowledge in that department as well.”
In perhaps the most memorable moment of his professional career, Massú delivered two gold medals to his home country of Chile in the 2004 Olympics. He also won six ATP titles and reached a career high of number 9 in 2004. He began coaching Dominic Thiem in early 2019. The Austrian promptly won Indian Wells and Barcelona and completed his best ever year with an appearance in the final of the ATP Finals. For his efforts, Massú was nominated as 2019 ATP Coach of the Year.
Massú will train with the Dunlop CX 200+ racket, strung with NT Max Plus string.
