USTA Launches Junior Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Series
June 15, 2021
ORLANDO, Fla., June 11, 2021 – The USTA launched the new USTA Junior Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Series, a group of nationally-ranked tournaments taking place across the country. The series began June 11-13 with the River City Slam in Goochland, Va.
The focus of this series, the first-ever unified structure of national junior wheelchair tennis events, is to provide junior wheelchair tennis players with level-based play opportunities and to encourage providers to expand their tournament offerings for junior wheelchair athletes, with the goal of increasing participation in wheelchair tennis among juniors.
“This series will provide our junior wheelchair athletes with consistent, level-based play opportunities that will allow current players to compete year-round, while also hopefully opening up doors for new players to join the sport,” said Tracy Davies, Managing Director, Recreational Competition, USTA. “This is an important step as we fully integrate wheelchair tennis across all of the USTA’s products and programs.”
The tournaments are open to all junior wheelchair tennis players, and some tournaments are providing financial support for players to cover entry fees and other expenses. For more information on the series and the tournaments, click here.
