ASBA Offers ‘Pickleball Court Construction’ Online Course, Certificate Program

October 12, 2021

Forest Hill, MD (Oct. 12, 2021) – The American Sports Builders Association, the national organization for builders, design professionals and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities, has announced that in recognition of the growth of pickleball—and the corresponding need for court builders with pickleball facility-specific expertise—it has launched an online continuing education course: “Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction.”

The ASBA created the Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction course for anyone wanting to learn more about pickleball court construction, and to continue to encourage and demonstrate quality construction in the sports industry.

“Working with a builder who holds this certificate will give consumers peace of mind that their contractor is knowledgeable in all aspects of building pickleball courts,” notes ASBA’s Courts Division President Randy Resley. “This program is a great step forward for the association and will help set higher construction standards in the industry.”

The course includes information on building new courts, court dimensions, lines, lighting, ADA compliance and more.

For individuals who would like to take the course and are not currently a Certified Tennis Court Builder (CTCB), ASBA recommends the “Fundamentals of Tennis Court Construction” course as a prerequisite, as that course concentrates on the construction of a court. Once completed, the Fundamentals of Pickleball Court Construction course will focus on the differences between the courts, lighting, fencing and more. Taken together, the two provide an excellent background for builders.

Both the tennis court and pickleball court construction courses are free to ASBA members and are available to nonmembers for $199 each.

Individuals who are currently Certified Tennis Court Builders can earn the Pickleball Court Construction certificate as an addendum to their current CTCB certification through the Pickleball Certificate Program for Current Certified Tennis Court Builders.

To apply for the certificate, CTCBs must show three years of experience in all aspects of building pickleball courts and pass the online course exam. Upon successful completion, CTCBs will receive a certificate and the builder’s name will be listed on the ASBA website as a Certified Builder with a Pickleball Court Builder Certificate. Builder members receive a discounted price of $400 for the course and certificate. Nonmember pricing is $600.

CTCBs who are interested in getting started should complete download and complete the following documents, available here:

Completed documents should be sent to [email protected]. Upon approval of experience, builders will receive a link to purchase online course and exam.

The ASBA is a non-profit association helping design professionals, builders, suppliers, owners, operators and users understand quality sports facility construction.
