ASBA to Celebrate 60th Anniversary at Technical Meeting Dec. 2-5 in San Antonio

August 6, 2025

Forest Hill, MD – The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the national organization for builders, design professionals and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities, announces its upcoming Technical Meeting, to be held in San Antonio, Texas this December 2-5, 2025. The host hotel will be the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. This year, ASBA will celebrate its 60th anniversary, and additional events are planned.

Meeting registration and other information will be posted on the Association’s website beginning on Monday, August 11.

The ASBA Technical Meeting is widely regarded as one of the best gatherings in the industry and this year’s will be no exception,” said Randy Resley, Chairman of ASBA. “ASBA continues to offer the best content, and to build on its success, providing not just excellent technical information but opportunities to connect with the best and brightest minds in the sports facility design, construction and supply industry.”

The meeting, which attracts members of the Association, as well as of the larger sports design and construction industry from around the world, includes opportunities for learning, networking and business development:

Industry-Leading Education: The Technical Meeting includes a program packed with 30 concurrent sessions selected by ASBA members across each division (Courts, Tracks, Indoor Sports Surfaces and Fields) plus the cutting-edge technical information professionals need in order to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving sports facility market.

Business Development Opportunities: ASBA’s Technical Meeting includes an expansive exhibit hall and trade show, filled with the newest and most advanced products and technologies in the industry.

Unparalleled Networking: One of the most valuable benefits of attending the ASBA Technical Meeting is the opportunity to meet and learn from others in the industry. The program is designed to facilitate connections in the session rooms and exhibit hall as well as during meals and evening functions. ASBA’s Golf, Tennis and Pickleball, tournaments, as well as its Sporting Clays event, offer even further opportunities to connect with others in a casual, enjoyable setting.

Opportunities to Become Involved with ASBA: The Technical Meeting includes meetings of committees and membership divisions, as well as chances to learn about options like ASBA’s voluntary certification program. In addition, the winners of ASBA’s Facility Awards Program are announced, as are other Association honors.

Anniversary Celebration: 2025 marks ASBA’s 60th anniversary. The organization was founded in 1965 as the U.S. Tennis Court & Track Builders Association (USTC&TBA) by a group of contractors who recognized the need for an organization that could help them address their mutual problems, set industry standards and keep them informed on issues pertinent to their businesses.

From its early years, with only a dozen contractors participating in those first few meetings, to its membership today (which includes nearly 700 companies, as well as Technical Meeting attendance of more than 1,400 in 2024) the Association has grown, flourished and changed in a multitude of ways. In 2004, the name change to the American Sports Builders Association reflected the broad scope of work done by its members. The Association has expanded and grown since then, continuing to enrich the industry with new membership divisions, multiple technical publications and position papers, robust certification and awards programs, a full complement of educational offerings, the announcement of the American Sports Builders Foundation and many other developments.

“As ASBA prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary, it is appropriate that we take some time to reflect on all the work that has been done to bring us to this point,” said Resley. “We are looking forward to celebrating that work at the Technical Meeting, as well as throughout the year.”

The ASBA is a non-profit association comprised of nearly 700 design professionals, builders and suppliers engaged in sports facility construction. The ASBA sponsors informative meetings, publishes books and technical construction guidelines for athletic facilities as well as its quarterly magazine, Build It Right, offers an awards program to recognize construction excellence, and keeps its members aware of the latest developments in the industry.

ASBA’s extensive educational network includes the following:

· Online courses in court, track, indoor sports surfacing and sports field construction to help create a more skilled workforce in the industry
· Voluntary certification programs in tennis court, running track and sports field construction
· Certificate programs in pickleball court construction

The American Sports Builders Foundation also provides scholarship support to select students coming into the sports facility construction and design industry and offers a program to provide assistance to facilities in need of repair and reconstruction.
